2010 Highlights

The Learning and Technology World Forum 2010 successfully attracted over 1200 leaders from more than 100 countries, including 70 ministers of education and skills.  The event was the largest gathering of education and skills leaders in the world and over 80% of the world’s population were represented.

The main theme for 2010 was 'Re-imagining education'.  During the forum, participants explored aspects of:

  • Enabling regeneration and economic recovery
  • Striving for excellence
  • Preparing for the future    

The Rt Hon Gordon Brown opened the forum, which also saw presentations from Rt Hon Ed Balls, Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families and the Rt Hon Lord Mandelson, First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. Award-winning teachers, including Dan Lea (UK), Anthony J. Mullen (United States of America) and Moliehi Sekese (Lesotho) shared their thoughts on best practice with the audience and a number of leading authorities, including Robin Horn, World Bank, Carol Bellamy, Chair of the Education for All/Fast Track Initiative, Dr Tarek Shawki Director of the Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States of UNESCO and Professor Barry McGaw, Executive Director, Assessment strategies for 21st century skills gave speeches.

The programme also included formal and informal opportunitues to engage in dialogue and debate, talk to students about their learning experiences, learn more about the English education and skills system and participate in educational visits.
